Product Overview
A compass helps you establish direction, but planning a route also means understanding the distance ahead. The Rothco Deluxe Map Compass brings both tasks together with a liquid-filled compass and ruler markings along its sides. Used with your map’s scale, those markings help you translate distances on paper into distances on the ground—a useful starting point for planning a hike or working through a field navigation exercise.
Read the route, then check your direction
The side rulers let you measure between points on a map and calculate the corresponding distance using its printed scale. That gives you a clearer picture of how far apart landmarks or route checkpoints are before you set off. For a winding trail, measure the route in sections rather than treating the straight-line distance as the full journey.
A large turning dial and fine graduations support directional readings and adjustments. The liquid filling helps damp needle movement, making it easier to read once it settles. An integrated magnifying glass also helps you examine small map labels and details without carrying a separate magnifier.
A compact addition to your navigation kit
The lightweight acrylic plastic construction keeps this map compass easy to carry alongside a paper map. It suits hiking and camping kits, as well as airsoft events that involve map-based objectives or navigation between field locations. The included lanyard gives you a way to keep the compass close at hand instead of searching through your gear at each checkpoint.

For distance calculations, pair the compass with a map that displays its scale. The rulers provide the measurement; the map’s scale supplies the conversion needed to understand the route.
