Product Overview

Keeping a running count in your head gets harder when you’re also watching the trail or checking your route. The Rothco Pace Counter gives you a physical way to record your progress on foot, using movable beads on a pre-tied cord. It’s a simple navigation accessory for hiking, scouting, outdoor survival exercises, and airsoft activities that involve traveling between field landmarks.

The counter has two separate bead sections: nine beads below and four above. This arrangement lets you use one section for completed distance intervals and the other for larger groups of those intervals. Moving a bead as you reach each checkpoint keeps your running tally separate from the paces you’re currently counting, reducing the amount you need to remember along the way.

Set your pace before following your route

A pace counter records your count rather than measuring distance automatically. For useful distance estimates, first establish how many of your paces cover a known distance, then use that count consistently as you walk. Terrain and changes in stride can affect the estimate, so the beads are most useful as part of a practiced pacing routine. Their tactile format also gives you a way to track progress when visibility is limited.

Plastic beads and polyester paracord keep the construction straightforward. At approximately 18 inches long, the counter provides room for the two bead sections without becoming a lengthy piece of gear to manage. It arrives pre-tied, so there’s no cord assembly to complete before putting it to use.
