Sun-shading headwear does not have to be a fabric hat. The Rothco Pith Helmet uses a waterproof high-density polyethylene shell to provide coverage for your head and face, with the distinctive pith-helmet shape suited to outdoor wear or a safari costume. Inside, an adjustable fit and removable terry cloth sweatband make the design more accommodating than its rigid exterior might suggest.
Adjustable sizing inside the shell
An internal hook-and-loop strap lets you adjust the fit within the helmet’s stated hat-size range of 6 1/2 to 7 3/4. That adjustment is useful for getting the helmet seated comfortably rather than relying on a fixed-size interior. Although this is a one-size-fits-most design, checking your hat size against that range is the best starting point before ordering.
The terry cloth sweatband provides a soft contact surface inside the helmet. It attaches with hook-and-loop fasteners, so you can remove it for maintenance instead of working around a permanently attached band. For outdoor wear, that removable component is a useful detail in an otherwise straightforward design.
