Product Overview
Lower-leg protection does not have to stop at the shin. Rothco Hard Shell Shin Guards extend coverage to the knee, ankle, and foot, combining rigid plates with cushioned backing. For an airsoft loadout where you want more coverage than separate knee pads provide, this design brings several areas of protection together in one piece of equipment.
Hard plates with cushioned backing
The outer plates are made from non-reflective polycarbonate, providing a hard-shell barrier without a shiny finish. Behind those plates, mesh-covered EVA foam adds cushioning between the shell and your leg. A polyester tricot inner lining forms the wearer-facing surface, so the construction pairs a rigid exterior with a padded interior rather than placing the hard plates directly against you.
Coverage also extends around the lower portion of the leg through padded outer ankle protectors. This is an important distinction if you are comparing these guards with shin-only designs: the ankle and foot components are part of the setup, not simply an extension of the shin plate.
Adjust the fit and foot coverage
Three hook-and-loop closures at the back let you adjust how closely the guards sit around your legs. That adjustment is useful when fitting them over your field clothing, although the guards still need to be appropriately sized for the wearer. This listing is for size L; the adjustable closures fine-tune the fit rather than replace size selection.
The foot plates are both adjustable and removable, giving you control over that part of the coverage. You can adjust their position as part of fitting the guards or remove them when you do not want the foot section attached. When setting up your kit, check the fit with the trousers and footwear you intend to wear.
